Marty Farrant is a member of the Firm's Information Technology and Outsourcing Practice Group. His practice focuses on representing and counseling clients in transactions involving information technology.  Mr. Farrant’s work primarily involves the structuring, drafting, and negotiation of complex agreements, including software licenses, outsourcing agreements, and consulting contracts.  He frequently advises clients on matters regarding the development and hosting of websites and web applications, as well as the licensing and protection of copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.  He also often provides advice on corporate and contract law, as well as secured commercial transactions.  Mr. Farrant has assisted clients across a broad spectrum of high-technology industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, and software development.

Mr. Farrant brings to his law practice a common sense approach to business issues and the clear communication style he developed during the ten years he spent working in some of the types of companies he now represents.  Before earning his law degree, Mr. Farrant spent more than a decade working in and managing technology-centric businesses.  He began his career in the broadcast and cable television industry, and served as Operations Manager to a Georgia-based regional cable operator, where he oversaw the roll-out of one of the earliest launches of residential high-speed cable modem Internet service in the U.S.  He was later recruited to serve as Business Development Manager to a national cable television network headquartered in Atlanta, where he helped to structure and execute transactions that paired emerging technologies with licensed content for distribution via digital television and the Internet.  In 2001, he relocated to coastal South Carolina where he held the position of Chief Technical Officer to a Hilton Head Island real estate marketing and property management firm.  During law school, Mr. Farrant worked as a law clerk for the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff in Columbia, South Carolina, where he assisted in telecommunication matters.

Mr. Farrant holds a B.A. in Mass Communication from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he received the CALI® Award for Legal Excellence in Intellectual Property Law.

Originally from the Adirondack mountain region of upstate New York, Mr. Farrant and his wife Melanie currently reside in Bluffton, South Carolina.
