Shawn Kachmar is a Partner at HunterMaclean and practices in the areas of Employment Law, Employee Benefits and Business Litigation. Mr. Kachmar counsels employers on a variety of employment law compliance issues and has defended employers in administrative proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, individual suits, and class and collective actions arising under various federal and state laws, including Title VII, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act ("ERISA"), and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Mr. Kachmar also advises employers on employment agreements, executive compensation and ERISA matters, alternative dispute resolution, and restrictive covenants. He is a frequent speaker at employment law and human resources seminars. In addition to his employment practice, Mr. Kachmar handles a wide variety of business litigation matters with an emphasis on intellectual property disputes.
Mr. Kachmar is a member of the State Bars of Georgia and South Carolina. He is admitted to practice in all Georgia and South Carolina State Courts, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Eleventh and Fourth Circuits, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Georgia, and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. He is also a member of the American and Savannah Bar Associations.
Mr. Kachmar received his B.S., with high distinction, in Public Policy from Pennsylvania State University in 1994 and his J.D., with distinction, from the Emory University School of Law in 1997. During law school, Mr. Kachmar was a Notes & Comments editor for the Emory Law Journal, and clerked for the Honorable Hugh P. Thompson, Associate Justice, Georgia Supreme Court. Following law school, Mr. Kachmar clerked for the Honorable Ira DeMent, United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.
Mr. Kachmar is active in the community. He is the past Chairman of the Georgia Department of Labor's Savannah Area Employers Committee and is also on the state-wide Georgia Employer Committee where he serves as the committee's legislative liason. Mr. Kachmar also serves on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Savannah, the Savannah Downtown Business Association, and the Olde Towne Homeowners Association. He also coaches youth soccer.
Mr. Kachmar is a graduate of the Leadership Savannah class of 2006. He was recently selected as a Georgia Rising Star in Employment Litigation by Law & Politics and Atlanta Magazine and was named one of Savannah's "40 Under 40" by the Savannah Business Report & Journal.
