Bates Lovett is a Partner in the Savannah office. He is an experienced trial attorney who advises, represents, and litigates on behalf of HunterMaclean's clients. Mr. Lovett dedicates the majority of his practice to defending companies, both local and national, in lawsuits filed throughout the southeastern United States.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lovett was an assistant district attorney where he tried over 50 cases to jury verdict. Most recently, he was an ADA for the Cobb County Crimes Against Women and Children Unit. There, he prosecuted felony cases in which the victim was a woman or child, such as murder, rape, child molestation, cruelty to children, and aggravated stalking. Mr. Lovett was also an assistant district attorney in Rockdale County where he was the Domestic Violence Prosecutor.
He is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia; the District of South Carolina; the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals; the Georgia and South Carolina Courts of Appeals; and the Georgia and South Carolina Supreme Courts.
Mr. Lovett earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Georgia, cum laude. He then earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia, cum laude, where he was a recipient of the Bryant T. Castellano academic scholarship. While in law school, Mr. Lovett was a member of the Moot Court team and served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of International and Comparative Law.
