Working at HunterMaclean
HunterMaclean has the most diverse practice and client base of any law firm in the area. Accordingly, our attorneys have the opportunity to work on challenging and rewarding legal issues, and to take advantage of the unparalleled quality of life our firm culture and the region have to offer.
All of our new associates take part in our formal mentoring program, which matches them with a more senior attorney who is responsible for guiding the associate through the first few years of practice. Through the mentoring program and other firm functions, junior attorneys receive training in the substantive areas in which they practice, as well as guidance in how to develop into a successful attorney.
To the extent you are ready, we attempt to provide the opportunity to assume substantial responsibility at an early stage in your career. While you will perform legal research, draft motions and briefs, negotiate and draft contracts, interview witnesses, counsel clients, prepare discovery requests and responses, and participate in document reviews, you’ll also have the opportunity to take depositions, argue motions, participate in trials, arbitrations, and mediations, attend closings, and conduct investigations. There is no substitute for hands-on experience.
As an associate, you will also go through a formal review process on a yearly basis in which your performance is assessed and a development plan for the coming year is outlined. These reviews provide the opportunity for a frank discussion of your strengths and weaknesses and an assessment as to whether you are on partnership track. Fundamental to our hiring philosophy is a desire to hire attorneys that we believe will develop and grow in their practice, and will become Partners within the Firm.
