Memorial Health University Medical Center was originally founded as a county hospital authority and by law was only allowed to serve patients in one county. In the early 1980s, a movement began to allow hospital authorities to expand their reach beyond country boundaries. The Georgia Supreme Court was very specific about the legal parameters and had already struck down one hospital's attempt to expand beyond county limits, while allowing another hospital to move forward.

Memorial Health wanted to diversify and asked HunterMaclean, its law firm since the 1950s, to help the hospital restructure itself in a way that would gain approval from the IRS and the Georgia Supreme Court.

Through meticulous research, creative advice, and expert knowledge of the legal parameters of the health care industry, HunterMaclean created a whole new corporate structure for the hospital.
