Legal Awareness in the Workplace: Georgia Employment Law

Georgia Southern University is offering Human Resources (HR) seminars at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah and at HunterMaclean‘s Brunswick office, beginning in February and continuing throughout May 2015. The course instructors are partner attorneys in the Savannah office of HunterMaclean.

The first seminar, Legal Awareness in the Workplace (LAW) 108: Georgia Employment Law, will be presented by attorney Sarah Lamar on Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center. Sarah will cover various Georgia employment law topics including the creation of at-will and contract employment, negligent supervision/retention of employees, defamation in the context of employment references, and workplace privacy. The seminar will explore Georgia discrimination and compensation laws in light of their federal counterparts.

Georgia Southern University is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP and the SHRM-SCP. Upon completion of the seminar, attendees will receive 1.5 credit hours toward a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), or Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) re-certification that complies with the rules of the Human Resources Certification Institute.
