Kirby Mason Named President of Georgia Defense Lawyers Association

June 16, 2014

Kirby Mason, a partner in the Savannah office of HunterMaclean, was elected president of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association (GDLA) at its annual meeting held June 12-15. The GDLA was founded more than 40 years ago to further the interests of the civil defense bar. It provides education, training, and networking opportunities to its more than 700 members.

Mason is a recognized litigator and has practiced at HunterMaclean for more than 20 years. She has successfully defended insurance companies, health care providers, and banking institutions, as well as a wide variety of businesses with employment, real estate, or other contract disputes. In addition to her leadership in handling legal matters, Mason has provided leadership in management of the firm, serving on committees and mentoring young attorneys.

“Not only is the GDLA fortunate to have Kirby at the helm this year, but she is so deserving of the honor of serving as its next president,” said Theodore “Ted” Freeman, outgoing GDLA president and partner in Atlanta’s Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP. “For nearly a decade, Kirby has worked her way up the ranks, excelling in every position to which she has been elected and ably handling each responsibility. I am confident in leaving our leadership in her good hands.”

Mason earned two B.A. degrees from Whitman College and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law, cum laude. A member of the American Bar Association and the Savannah Bar Association, she is admitted to the State Bars of Georgia, South Carolina, and Montana, and has been selected as a Fellow of the American Bar Association. In addition to her legal work, Mason has served the community in several organizations, including volunteering for Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, the Truancy Intervention Program of Chatham County, Habitat for Humanity, Clean Coast, and has served on several boards, including Boy Scouts of America, the Rape Crisis Center, the Emmaus House, Hancock Day School, and the Marshes of Skidaway Island. She is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Savannah.
