Legal Awareness in the Workplace: Managing Employee Leave, Including FMLA, ADA & Workers Comp

November 17, 2015

Georgia Southern University’s new season of Legal Awareness in the Workplace will run from August through January. Human Resource professionals, supervisors, office managers, and other business leaders are invited to attend 90-minute professional development seminars on important employment law issues. Seminars are held monthly, rotating from the law office of HunterMaclean in Brunswick, the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center on campus in Statesboro, and the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah.

HunterMaclean attorney Shawn Kachmar will present Legal Awareness in the Workplace (LAW) 124: Managing Employee Leave, Including FMLA, ADA & Workers Comp on November 17 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center. New interpretations and decisions on the FMLA, ADA & Workers Comp laws require HR to stay constantly updated on employee-leave issues. Participants learn when and how to apply unpaid leave, accommodate injured workers with re-assignment, approve medical leave requests, and implement missed-work policies. In addition, various federal and state laws provide for employee leave or job protections for military service, jury duty, and voting, among other situations. Is your company in compliance?

Georgia Southern University is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP and the SHRM-SCP. After completing the seminar, attendees will receive 1.5 credit hours toward a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), or Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) re-certification that complies with the rules of the Human Resources Certification Institute.

The seminar fee is $59 for individuals and $55 each for four or more per firm. The registration deadline is noon on Tuesday, November 10. To register, go to http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/ce/programs or call toll-free 855-478-5551. For more information, e-mail j-Lutz@georgiasouthern.edu.
