Georgia Southern University’s new season of Legal Awareness in the Workplace will run from August through January. Human Resource professionals, supervisors, office managers, and other business leaders are invited to attend 90-minute professional development seminars on important employment law issues. Seminars are held monthly, rotating from the law office of HunterMaclean in Brunswick, the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center on campus in Statesboro, and the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah.
Attorney Shawn Kachmar will present Legal Awareness in the Workplace (LAW) 123: Social Media – What Human Resource Professionals Should Know on Tuesday, October 20, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center in Statesboro. The social media craze is here to stay: Facebook, Twitter, email, texting, etc. Privacy laws and federal laws such as the NLRA impact your control over staff’s social media use at work and off duty. This practical review of applicable statutes/regulations will help you choose policies for your firm.
Georgia Southern University is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-SCP and the SHRM-CP. After completing the seminar, attendees will receive 1.5 credit hours toward a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), or Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) re-certification that complies with the rules of the Human Resources Certification Institute.
