Released June 28, 2007
The University of North Carolina’s School of Law Foundation recently named HunterMaclean attorney and corporate law veteran R. Scott Tobin the president and chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors.
Created in 1959, the UNC School of Law Foundation receives, manages and administers private gifts from alumni and friends of the law school. The endowment includes named funds in support of professorships, scholarships, academic programs, the Katherine R. Everett Law Library and other activities as specified by the donor.
An experienced entrepreneur and venture capitalist, Tobin served as special counsel to a major regional law firm in Greensboro, N.C., where his practice focused on corporate governance, technology acquisitions and finance, before joining HunterMaclean’s Savannah office in 2007. His career also includes work as an international advisor for European businesses, and tenure as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia, and Chairman and CEO of a North Carolina manufacturing firm.
His 25 years of involvement and participation in business as a senior executive, lawyer, software entrepreneur and strategist provide a unique combination of experience that made him an attractive choice to lead the UNC School of Law Foundation.
A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the UNC School of Law, Tobin served as the founding director of the UNC School of Law Initiative for Corporate Governance and as a member of the UNC School of Law Council for Entrepreneurial Law. He was recognized in 2003 as one of the Top 10 business people in the Triad Region of North Carolina. Tobin currently resides in Savannah.
