Edgar M. Smith Accepted to Prestigious Young Lawyers Division Leadership Academy in Atlanta

HunterMaclean is pleased to announce that associate Edgar M. Smith has been accepted to the Georgia Bar Association’s prestigious Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Leadership Academy’s Class of 2010.

The Young Lawyers Division Leadership Academy, which is based in Atlanta, provides the opportunity for attorneys to observe legislation at the state capitol and to refine professional and pro bono skills. A division of the Georgia Bar Association, the YLD educates young attorneys about timely issues, develops leadership skills and fosters mentoring between lawyers and state leaders.

“I’m truly honored to be selected for the Young Lawyers Division Leadership Academy,” said Smith. “I welcome the opportunity to continue my professional education and look forward to taking advantage of all the opportunities the Leadership Academy has to offer.”

Smith is a member of HunterMaclean’s Specialty Litigation, Commercial Finance and Real Estate and Bankruptcy Practice Groups, where he concentrates his practice in litigating business and real estate disputes. An accomplished litigator, he also represents residential and commercial property owners, as well as lenders, in state and federal court.

Originally from Plains, Ga., Smith graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Ga., where he earned his J.D. with cum laude honors. While at the University of Georgia, he became a member of Phi Alpha Delta and was initiated into Gridiron. He earned his B.B.A. in Marketing from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga., where he graduated summa cum laude. While at Georgia Southern University, he was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.

A United Way volunteer, Smith is a member of the American Bar Association, Georgia Bar Association and Savannah Bar Association.
