March 2020 through the present was filled with many unforeseen challenges for businesses and individuals. At the outset, we were preparing for short-term closures and transitioning to a virtual/modified workplace, but over a full year later many business operations are changed forever. COVID’s impact on business operations, more specifically risk and workers’ compensation plans, has been diverse and significant. Varying states amended the longstanding Workers’ Compensation Acts to include COVID-related exposures as presumptively work-related and significant changes were made to the labor and employment landscape to accommodate pandemic-related issues. What will be the unintended consequences of these changes?
This panel segment discussed employers’ COVID response experiences and the future impact of COVID on our workplace and risk programs. It also identified “best practices” learned from this pandemic experience.
