The Georgia Logistics Summit, presented each year by the Center of Innovation for Logistics, is the premiere logistics event in Georgia. Every spring more than 2,000 logistics industry professionals travel to Atlanta for the Summit, many of them from Savannah. This year the Center of Innovation for Logistics and HunterMaclean have developed a new event focused specifically on the coastal Georgia region: the Savannah Logistics Lunch. The first annual Savannah Logistics Lunch will be held on Tuesday, August 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Embassy Suites Savannah Airport.
The centerpiece of the Savannah Logistics Lunch is a panel discussion, which each year will address a topic of interest to the Savannah logistics community. For the inaugural event, the topic is Cold Chain and Perishables. The Center has assembled an impressive list of expert panelists:
- Ross Maple, Director of Business Strategy, Nordic Logistics and Warehousing
- Chris Logan, Senior Director of Trade Development, Georgia Ports Authority
- Lee Woodham, President, FreshPoint Atlanta
- Bo Warren, Director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Agribusiness
This group will discuss the growth of the cold chain and perishables sectors of the logistics industry in the coastal Georgia region, as well as ideas for expanding that growth. Georgia’s strength as an agricultural producer means that there is a large volume of frozen and perishable exports. Given that cold transportation and storage facilities are in place to handle those exports, there are several initiatives to grow imports that can make use of those facilities and reap the additional benefits of balanced trade within this sector.
The 2015 Georgia Logistics Summit in March was packed with presentations and interactive panel discussions, and even those who attended—ourselves included—were not able to attend them all. Jannine Miller, director of the Center of Innovation for Logistics, will go over highlights of the Georgia Logistics Summit as well as a summary of initiatives from the Center of Innovation for Logistics. There will also be an update from the transportation sector.
In short, there will be a lot of very topical information on offer. The cost for the Savannah Logistics Lunch is only $15.00, and registration is now open at http://bit.ly/LogisticsLunch.
The Savannah Logistics Lunch is a terrific addition to the calendar of logistics events in Savannah, and HunterMaclean is proud to partner with the Center of Innovation for Logistics to present the Savannah Logistics Lunch.
