Each spring, Savannah State University holds Honoring Legends, a gala event to raise scholarship funds. One of HunterMaclean’s named partners, Malcolm Maclean, was chosen as a 2020 honoree, along with Dr. Ida Gadsden and Judge Eugene Gadsden. The gala was originally scheduled for April but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. In November, SSU decided to hold the gala virtually instead.

The WTOC production aired on Thursday, November 12. The video is about thirty minutes long, with the second half (beginning at 15:45) dedicated to Malcolm Maclean. As mayor of Savannah in the 1960s, Malcolm played a critical role in desegregating the city as peacefully as possible during a time of great civil unrest.
