Armstrong State University Associate Professor Dr. Becky K. da Cruz was honored with the Liberty Bell Award during the Savannah Bar Association’s Law Day Luncheon and Annual Meeting held May 14 at the Savannah Golf Club.
The Liberty Bell Award recognizes a non-lawyer for outstanding service in promoting a better understanding and respect for the rule of law. da Cruz was nominated by HunterMaclean partner Drew Ernst for her work as a mentor and coach to Armstrong’s award-winning moot court team. In addition to teaching in the Department of Criminal Justice, Social and Political Science, she is also the program coordinator for the university’s master of science in criminal justice program and serves as an advisor to Armstrong’s Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity chapter, a co-ed, professional organization that preps students for both graduate school and the workforce.
da Cruz has a J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law, a Ph.D. in human service with a specialization in criminal justice from Capella University and B.A. in political science from Wright State University. She joined Armstrong as a faculty member in the Department of Criminal Justice, Social and Political Science in 2003 and led the Armstrong moot court team to win Southeast regional and American Collegiate Moot Court National Champion titles.
