HunterMaclean is pleased to announce that attorney Janet A. Shirley was recently selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2014. This marks the 10th year Best Lawyers has honored Ms. Shirley for her contribution to the Trusts and Estates field.
Ms. Shirley is a partner at HunterMaclean’s Brunswick office who practices in the areas of estate planning and fiduciary law. She advises clients on issues concerning estate and generation skipping tax, business structure and succession planning, formation of family limited partnerships, asset protection, charitable giving and planning for non-citizens, as well as estate administration and postmortem planning. She has also provided advice to the trust departments of national and community banks and to charitable entities, including charitable organizations and private foundations and associations.
Ms. Shirley is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a member of the National Association of Estate Planning Councils and an Accredited Estate Planner. She is a member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council, the Savannah Estate Planning Council, the Atlanta Fiduciary Luncheon Group, the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, the Glynn County Bar Association and the Sections of Taxation and Real Property and Probate of the American Bar Association.
She earned a J.D. from Boston University and a B.A. from New York University and is admitted to practice law in Georgia and Massachusetts.
An active community volunteer, Ms. Shirley is a past president and current member of the Auxiliary of Hospice of the Golden Isles. Her other community involvement includes membership in the St. Simons Land Trust, Alzheimer’s of Glynn/Brunswick, the Coastal Symphony of Georgia, the Georgia Forestry Association and the Live Oaks Garden Club. She is a member of the Episcopal Christ Church on St. Simons Island, volunteers for the Annual Tour of Homes and is active in the Frederick Cousins Guild.
Since it was first published in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.”
