The 2016 HunterMaclean Critical Issues Forum took place on Thursday, September 29th at the College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA) Conference Center and focused on Entrepreneurship Ecosystems. The forum provided an opportunity for business and community leaders to hear speakers offer perspectives on developing entrepreneurship in Brunswick and the Golden Isles.
After HunterMaclean partner Joey Strength welcomed the attendees, publisher and executive Reg Murphy gave an overview of how entrepreneurship can benefit a community. Dr. William “Skip” Mounts, Dean of the School of Business and Public Management for CCGA, continued the theme and expanded on the value of entrepreneurship communities (or ecosystems) and what is currently in place in Brunswick. Grace Belangia and Eric Parker then spoke about the evolution and economic impact of the Clubhou.se, a non-profit business and community incubator in Augusta that they co-founded.
“Today’s forum explored how an entrepreneurship community in Brunswick and the Golden Isles could be an important part of a diverse local economy,” said Strength. “We hope that these discussions will be a catalyst for mentors, investors, and innovators to be a part of growing our entrepreneurship ecosystem.”
The HunterMaclean Critical Issues Forum is an annual speaker series that invites speakers to address issues of importance to the Golden Isles business community. The HunterMaclean Critical Issues Forum has been presented in Brunswick since 2012 and in Savannah since 2004.
