HunterMaclean partner W. Brooks Stillwell was recently named the secretary and treasurer for the Savannah Economic Development Authority, an organization dedicated to expanding the region’s existing economic base by growing, attracting and developing new business opportunities.
Stillwell was officially installed as an executive committee officer at the SEDA meeting on January 6, 2012. He has served on the SEDA board of directors since 2008.
Stillwell practices in the areas of Commercial Real Estate, Business Litigation and Bankruptcy/Workouts. He has extensive experience representing major national real estate clients in commercial real estate development, including public-private partnerships, land acquisition, planning and zoning, industrial development and governmental relations. He also has substantial experience in business litigation, including contract disputes and business breakups. He has represented both debtors and creditors in distressed real estate workout matters and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for real estate law.
He is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and is a past Chair of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia and a Past President of the Savannah Bar Association.
Stillwell served as an Alderman of the City of Savannah from 1974 to 1991 and served as Mayor Pro Tem of Savannah from 1990 to 1991. He is a former Chair of the Chatham County Board of Elections and a former board member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Coastal Zone Management, Historic Savannah Foundation, Coastal Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Savannah Country Day School.
He graduated with a B.A., cum laude, from Wake Forest University in 1968 and earned a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1971.
