Matt Gobel is an associate in HunterMaclean’s Corporate practice group, where he advises public and private companies, private equity firms, and family offices on a wide range of domestic and cross-border transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, leveraged buyouts, divestitures, minority equity investments, corporate restructurings, and commercial arrangements.
Matt’s approach to corporate law is pragmatic and results-driven, offering clients clear, actionable advice to reduce risk and close deals efficiently.
Matt has represented clients in a variety of sectors, including aerospace, consumer goods, fintech, construction, real estate investment, renewable energy, e-commerce, entertainment, chemical manufacturing, software, and healthcare.
Prior to joining HunterMaclean, Matt practiced for nearly seven years in the corporate group of Jones Day, where he supported significant transactions for industry-leading companies like Koch, Inc., Corpay, P&G, GE Aerospace, VSE Corporation, Avient Corporation, Milliken & Company, and Newell Brands.
He also maintains an active pro bono practice, most recently providing legal assistance to immigrants seeking asylum in the United States.
Matt was raised in Savannah and attended the University of Georgia for both his undergraduate and law degrees. While in law school, he served as an Articles Editor for the Georgia Law Review. Since graduating, Matt has had the opportunity to return to campus to present to law students on a range of corporate law topics.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Katherine, and their daughter, which often includes frequent trips to the beach and, in the fall, to Sanford Stadium in Athens. The Gobels are active members of the Independent Presbyterian Church.
